
James A. Caffry, Partner
Jim received his law degree from Albany Law School in 1994 (J.D. cum laude) and a master’s degree from Vermont Law School in 1993 (M.S.E.L. magna cum laude). He received his bachelor’s degree from Colgate University in 1988. He has been licensed to practice law in Vermont since 1995.
Jim practiced law in a central Vermont law firm from 2000 to 2010, before opening his own firm and the predecessor to Caffry & Keating, “Caffry Law”, in 2011. Prior to that Jim was in-house counsel at a ski resort company and an attorney for the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources.
Jim is one of two Vermont members of the Special Needs Alliance (http://www.specialneedsalliance.org) (SNA). His partner Kaitlyn is the other SNA Member in Vermont. The SNA is a national, invitation-only association of special needs planning lawyers. In 2018, he joined the SNA Board of Directors, and in 2022, Jim was elected to serve as the SNA President. In addition to the SNA, Jim is also a member of the Vermont Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).
Closer to home, Jim has been involved with numerous groups and boards in Vermont that focus on issues that impact individuals with disabilities and their families. Jim is an active member of the Vermont Developmental Disabilities Housing initiative, and since 2018 has served on the Vermont Development Services Payment Reform Advisory Committee. Jim also served on the board of Champlain Community Services from 2014-2019 and was appointed to serve on a Developmental Services Legislative Study committee in 2013. He was also a past member of the Vermont Developmental Disabilities Council from 2009-2014 and on the Vermont Autism Task Force from 2007-2010.
Outside of the disability of services arena, Jim has previously served on the board of directors of the Mad River Valley Community Fund, the Mad River Valley Health Center, and Camp Dudley, Inc.
Jim lives in Waitsfield, Vermont with his wife Amy, their son and two daughters. When not at work, Jim likes to enjoy the outdoors with his family, preferably on skis.

Kaitlyn Lewis Keating, Partner
Kaitlyn, a Waterbury native, began her work with Jim Caffry in July of 2016. Kaitlyn graduated cum laude with a J.D. from Vermont Law School’s inaugural Accelerated J.D. program, and magna cum laude with a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire. She is licensed to practice law in Vermont and New Hampshire.
As with the rest of the Caffry & Keating team, Kaitlyn strives to ensure clients are well-informed about their options for the present and their plans for the future. She works closely with clients to prepare a comprehensive estate and/or special needs plan that addresses the clients’ personal concerns and accurately reflects their wishes, while providing peace of mind about their personal future and that of their family members.
Kaitlyn serves as the Vice President of the Vermont Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (VT NAELA), for which she served as Treasurer for four years. In her personal life, Kaitlyn volunteers as the Chair of the Northfield Community Development Network Board (NCDN); the Community Chair for the Vermont Council on Rural Development’s Northfield: Our Common Future initiative; a member of Northfield’s Accessibility, Walkability, & Pedestrian Safety Task Force; a reading mentor for the Everybody Wins! Vermont reading program; and a regular blood donor for the American Red Cross.
Previously, Kaitlyn clerked for two general practice firms in Montpelier as well as the Appellate and Juvenile Divisions of the Office of the Defender General, where, among other things, she supported children in need of care and supervision (CHINS) and children who were alleged delinquents. Between her undergraduate education and her attendance at Vermont Law School, Kaitlyn was a teacher in Bangkok and Hua Hin, Thailand; she worked as a Behavior Interventionist for children with behavioral and emotional disorders through Washington County Mental Health Services; and she served as an AmeriCorps volunteer through the Vermont Youth Development Corps.
Kaitlyn lives in Northfield with her husband and their two labrador retrievers, Archer and Gobi. When she’s not in the office, or volunteering in her community, Kaitlyn enjoys traveling and exploring the outdoors with her family and friends.

Loni Boehme, Office Administrator and Bookkeeper
Loni joined Caffry & Keating PLLC in March of 2021. Born and raised in Vermont, Loni received her Associate Degree in Business Management from Champlain College in 1989.
Prior to working at Caffry & Keating, Loni was the Office Manager/Bookkeeper at the Alchemist Brewery in both the Waterbury and Stowe locations, where she worked closely with the CFO and supported retail staff on a daily basis. Loni has always sought out opportunities which allow her to go above and beyond and take on new challenges.
When she is not in the office, Loni enjoys spending time with her husband, her family, golden retriever, Marzin and bernese mountain dog, Floyd.

Sheila Luty, Paralegal
Sheila joined Caffry & Keating PLLC in September of 2023. She joined our team with more than 26 years of experience having worked in Connecticut and Vermont law firms. She prides herself on being a hard worker and always strides to be conscientious of other people’s feelings and needs.
She relocated back to Vermont in 2012 to be closer to her mother and family. She moved back to enjoy the beauty of the state and its close community base.
When not at work she is busy having adventures with her husband, their 3 adult children, and 2 grandchildren. She is happy to say they have all moved back to Vermont. She finds time to knit, read, and garden.
